New England Regional IPS Workshop

SCI is pleased to offer a two-week workshop for science teachers based on the Eighth Edition of Introductory Physical Science (IPS). The program follows the schedule of the popular residential workshop given annually at the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden, Colorado, and optional continuing education credit from CSM is available.

The program is aimed primarily at recent and potential IPS teachers in the eighth and ninth grades, but it will be very beneficial to any science teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of the foundations of physical science and its teaching methods.
 

Time:

July 28 through August 8, 2008 (10 weekdays);

8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. with a brief lunch break.

King Philip Middle School
18 King Street
Norfolk, MA

Program:
 

Instruction will take place primarily in the laboratory and focus on the experiments and pre- and post-lab discussions. Participants are encouraged to prepare questions that address content (text and problems) and methodology. Teaching strategies and comprehensive assessment tools will be discussed.

Instructor:
 

William Atherton, former Science Chairman at Wellesley Middle School and a veteran IPS instructor.

Tuition:
 

$550.00 payable to Science Curriculum Inc. The 5% credit for purchases of IPS copyrighted materials made directly from SCI since May 1, 2005 may be applied toward the tuition. The workshop cost and expectations of participants are the same whether or not credit is requested.

Payments:
 

A nonrefundable deposit of $50.00 is required, with the remaining $500.00 to be paid by June 30, 2008.
