Reflections Newsletter Goes On-Line
Beginning with the Winter 2005 issue (Number 18), SCI’s newsletter, Reflections, will be posted on-line and can be accessed from SCI’s home page. Reflections contains articles related to SCI’s programs written by authors and teachers of IPS and FM&E. Information on experiments and apparatus can often be found in Reflections, as well as announcements for training workshop opportunities.

Introductory Physical Science (IPS) Eighth Edition is Here

Textbook Corrections
Although SCI thoroughly reviews textbooks before and after printing,
sometimes errors are overlooked.

Any errors noted in the post-printing review are corrected in later
printings of the book.

SCI provides the following document as a resource for teachers in locating these minor errors.

Teaching About Radioactivity

At a time when the talk of terrorists seeking to use bombs laced with radioactive materials is of international concern, it is imperative that a physical science course provide a basic understanding of radioactivity. A check of the indexes of several popular high-school chemistry and physics textbooks shows that radioactivity is not introduced until pages 550 to 600. As any teacher knows, this means that the topic will never be taught. For many students, IPS offers the only opportunity for learning about radioactivity and getting a basic understanding of the atomicity of matter. Read article.

Order Individual Copies of IPS and/or FM&E Online
Parents and students can now order individual copies of Introductory Physical Science 7th and 8th Editions and Force, Motion, and Energy student textbooks online or by phone from BookEnds. Schools and institutions should continue to order directly from SCI.

Expanded IPS, FME and Test Design Workshops
We are pleased to announce the addition of a special seminar on Constructing Tests for Science Courses, in addition to workshops for teachers of Introductory Physical Science and Force Motion & Energy.
